Caring for our Mothers and Fathers.
Achieving successful healthcare within a a community institution depends largely on a solid and committed team. Alhamdulillah we have a health team who undoubtedly has the solidity and commitment not often seen in a society dictated by contrary values. Our team plans and facilitates the policies and procedures that ensure safety and optimum care to our aged, in compliance to the health care norms and legislation in a loving safe haven.
Once the physical building and relative structure and systems were in place and ready for intake, the health team became involved with the recruitment, orientation and training of staff. From our staff we demand a high standard of balanced care for our residents. Besides meeting the physical needs of the aged, but also their psychological, emotional, family, social and spiritual needs.
On any given day we are called upon to interview prospective residents and families seeking to admit an aged love one. The committee together with the board members assess the total health care need of the applicant by using the physical assessment guideline and the medical report. This observation skill helps us determine if admission is the best option for the applicant and whether we have the capacity and capability to meet the needs of the applicant.
Key aspects of well-being in a resident include healing wounds, improved nutritional status, increased confidence in ambulation as well as gains in self-care ability are the things that give us a kick.
We have a group of women from the community who visit the residents a few time a week to render a sense of belonging and to meet some social spiritual needs.
Our goals and wishes for MZB are a work in progress, we would like to see greater sustainable community involvement to counteract loneliness and abandonment amongst the elderly. Solid traditional societal and religious structures are increasingly under threat, due to rapid technological and economic changes. Our aged has a valuable role to play, in the community of a way of life that supported the fabric of family life for millennia.
As we complete the journey with those in our care we respect their dignity in a loving and caring manner as Islam guides us to. We ask Allah to continue to use us to serve our elderly as encouraged by our beloved Nabi Muhammed (SAW) to the best of our ability with love, honour, mercy and humility.
Aameen.
